FIRES.
BOARDINGHOUSE DESTROYED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. A nine-roomed house at Sumner, owned by Mrs. E. White and occupied as a boardinghouse by Miss Campbell, was destroyed by fire this morning. The building was insured for £4OO and the furniture for £IOO, both in the National office. The house was temporarily unoccupied, a building contractor being en gaged adding three rooms and a bathroom. It is understood that the contractor had not insured his risk, which was valued at £250. BUILDING GUTTED NEAR AUCKLAND. Auckland, Friday. A fire on Manukau road, Newmarket, gutted the upstairs portion of a store and residence owned by W. Morgan ond occupied by Lindsay Bros. Only the upstairs portion was destroyed. The grocery stock was considerably damaged by water. Three girls and a boy had to escape by an upstairs window and t!i3 verandah.
