Tiic state of health of Mr. Albert Jiayly, of Omnia, is giving his friends grave concern. Mr. George Schmidt, assistant chief clerk to the Public Works Department, has been appointed secretary to tlie new Public Tenders Board. The Acting-Premier (Uon. ,r. Carroll) has received a cable to the effect that the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) and party hMe arrived in New York "all well."
A London cable intimate' that Sir William McGregor, who has been seriously indisposed, is progressing favorably, but it will be some months before he will be able to sail for Queensland lo assume the (lovcrnorsiiip of that State.
Mr. Will T. Crouin, representing Pictures, arrived in tuwn last night to make arrangements, under the direction of Mr. llayward, for a weekly circuit of the West Coast. The combination will be in Now Plymouth weekly, commencing Friday, 10th inst. Mr. (ieorge Scnrff, whose death occurred at Victoria Hospital. Wellington, recently, aged seventy-eight years, was a sergeant in the lSth Royal Irish llegi--1 nient, and rendered good'service to his country during the Maori-war.
