DISPENSING CHARITABLE AID

At a meeting o'f the Christchureh Benevolent Association held to-day (the Mayor presiding) a report was subm'.ited which made the following recommendations:—That an association he pet up to he composed of representatives from each of the charitable organisations in the city of Cbnstchurch to be called the Christchureh Benevolent Association; that the special function of the society shall be to collect information ■respecting persons in need or applying for charitable assistance, to prevent as far as possible the distribution of charitable relief to unworthy persons. The report was adopted and there iwas was a general expression of satisfaction that tho Association had been fairly started!. The opinion was expressed that it could prevent a good deal of overlapping in the distributicn of charitable relief. It was suggested that the coal and blanket fund should be administered through the medium of Ihe Association. Tt was resolved to ask the various churches and charitable organisations, (including the diaritable Aid Board) to appoint reprcsctita't'ives- on the Association.
