COMMITTED TO, THE SUPREME COURT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Lyttclton, Friday. John Bailey was committed for sentence to the Supreme Court for burglary with intent to commit a crime. With unwelcome attentions he had been pursuing Si girl for a considerable time, and on Wednesday morning attempted to break into her bedroom by a window. ALLEGED FORGERY. Wellington, Friday. Alfred Arthur Allen was chnrged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with having at New Plymouth forged the name of Alexander Illackwood Waldie to an order for t'.lO and uttered it to Henry Gold'water. Accused was remanded to appear at New Plymouth on Wednesday next. ALCOHOLIC GINGER ALE. Wellington, Friday. David Anderson and Son, grocers, wcie chnrged at the Police Court to-day with selling liquor in less quantities than two gallons. The liquor was ginger ale, which was found to contain 34.19 per cent, of alcohol. A fine of 20s with costs was imposed. The defendants said they acted unwittingly. CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
Ashburton, Last Night. Several fiisos of alleged cruelty to horses werp beard before Mr. V". J. Da v, S.M., to-day. The police pros'etuted in each case. \V. H. Zouch, Christelnirch inspector for the Society for the Prevention of Crueltv to Animals, was the chief witness. Fines were inflicted in every case save one, as follows:—Stephen Ryan £5, Henry Vestenskoe 40s. Alexander Knox fteddeelifTe 20s, John MrLauchlan 40>', with costs against each defendant. A charge against John Johnston of working Worses while suffering from sores was dismissed, it having been shown bv him that he had no knowledge of the condition of the animals.
