Mac.-.liiey, Carter, O'Connor, Haitigan ar..l leaver are omitted from the Australian team. A start was made at 12.20 o'clock. .Middlesex has lost two wickets for 111, Scores:

Douglas played an excellent innings, lasting fo r 45 minutes. His score included four tourers.—One for 02. Hendren made some good hits oil Hopkins, and the century was reeled off in 80 minutes.—Two for US. Owing to rain stunips'werc drawn at 5.40 o'clock. Warner played flawless cricket. Armstrong bowled with wonderful steadiness for nine overs for three' runs, but Whitty was freely punished. DEATH OF JIB. CONWAY. Melbourne, August 24. The death of Mr. Conway, a notable figure in the cricket world is announced. Deceased was the organiser and manager of the first Australian team that visited England. EXGLISH COUXTY CHAMPIONSHIP.
