LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Thursday. Ideal golfing weather was experienced for the opening of the ladies' championship meeting on the Manawatu links. In the first round there were two Surprises, Miss Rattray, four times champion, going down to Miss Baitli'waite, of Hastings, and Mrs. Bidwell, Masterton, was beaten on the home green by Miss B. Wood, The present champion, Miss Christie, of Oainaru, had a bye. Following is the result of the first round of the championship:—Miss Cowper (Wanganui) beat Miss Kettle (Grcyluoutli), 8 up and 7 to play; Mrs. Millsop (Manawatu) beat Mrs. Goode (Wanganui), 4 up and 3 to play; Miss Braithwaite (Hastings') beat Miss E. Tray (Dunedin), 3 up and 2 to play; Miss Standish (New Plymouth) beat Miss Hartgiil (Daimevirke), 1 up; Miss L. Brandon (Wellington) beat Mrs. Abraham (Manawatu), 9 up and 7 to play; Miss Stephenson (New- Plymouth) beat Miss Alison (Waitemata) a up and 4 to play; Miss Beatsoa (Hastings) beat Mrs. Holmes (Wellington), a up and 3 to play; Miss Mill (Otago) beat Miss D. Wood (Ohristchurch) beat Mi's. Bidwell (Wairarapa), 1 up; Miss Snowdgrass (Westport) belt Mrs. J. P. Jnnes (.Manawatu) 4 up and 3 to play; Mrs. Bevan (Otaki) beat Mrs. L. Seifert (Manawatu) 4 up and 3 to play; Mrs. Frceth (Wellington) belt Miss B. Hindniarch (Napier) at the 19th hole; Miss Hamlin (Napier) beat Mi6s Knulthley (Timaru), a up and 4 to play; Mrs. Guy Williams (Masterton) beat Miss B. Kettle (Grcymouth) 6 up and 5 to play. Palmertson, Last Night. The teams match was won by Wairarapa, with 423 points, the players con(listing of Mesdames Williams, Bidwell. Holmes and Miss Bell; Wellington A team was second with 425, Christchurch third with 437, and Ng.imotu (New Plymouth) fourth with 444.

The stroke handicap was won by Miss Humphries (Christehurch), 100 —'21 —70; Mrs. Oswin (New Plymouth), 111—25 86, and M.-s. Sim (Manawatu) 11—25 86 equal.

NGAMOTU v. INGLEWOOD. A team from the Ngamotu Club visited Inglewood yesterday, when an enjoyable game was played on the 'alter club's links. Most of the matches' were evenly contested. Ngamotu won 12 matches, Inglewood two, and three were halved. Law's (Inglewood) score of 45 for the first nine holes was the best that has been local links. Scores:— Ngamotu. Inglewood.
