WHITELEY CLUB SOCIAL.

■ The .Whitelcy Young People's Club held » very enjoyable social in the Whiteley Hall last night, the lady members tendering a return social to the men folk. There was 8» attendance of about a hundred and fifty, A novel feature, and a very clever and interesting one, was item number two on the programme, a series of tableaux being giypjj to represent the titles of current literature. The following book titles were ingeniously depicted;—" The Sowers" (Mcrriman), "The Orange Oirr (Besant)," My Honey" (Helen Mathers), "A Patched Up Affair" (Warden). "The Nun" and "Just as I am" (Braddon), "Harvest" (Winter), "Round the ttal Lamp" (Conan Doyle), "The I>.c\yspaper Girl" (Williamson), "Little Miss Mnffett" (Carey), "Dinna Forget" (Winter), "While the Billy Boils" and ".Japs at Home" (Sladen), "Angel of Forgiveness" (Carey). The musical programme was excellent in quality, plenteous in quantity, and was contributed by the following:—Vocal solos by Misses Fenton and Osborne, Messrs. Metcalf, Jenmite, Guy, and Rudd; vocal duet, Miss Buckman and Mr. Metcalf; cornet solo, Mr. Lawn; an orchestral trio and orchestral quartette. Hat-trimming and button-sewing competitions for men, and a capital supper completed the programme.
