BOXING.

UXHOLZ v. TRACY. THE BOER WINS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. Every 6eat in the Town Hall, iacluding those in the organ gallery, was filled to-night on the occasion of a fiftef.nround boxing contest between R. Unholz, of South Africa, and Tim Tracy, of Wellington. It must have been a record "gate" for such a contest in New Zealand, the prices of admission being 7s Gd, ss, 4s and 2s 6d. , The opinion freely prevailed that Tracy would not la&t more than five or eix rounds against his opponent, who holds a reputation for being a fighter of tie hurricane order. Such a prediction never at any Stage of the proceedings looked like being realised, and the contest went the whole fifteen rounds. At the conclusion the referee, Dr. Napier McLean, declared Unholz the winner. He had Tracy running all over the ring at times but administered little or no punishment of any consequence, and the two contestants could doubtless have continued their tactics for an fadefinite period without any damage being done. The whole proceedings were extremely disappointing, and it was without 'doubt the tamest professional go ever seen in the Dominion for a purse of. such dimensions —one hundred sov»., 75 to the winner and 25 to the loser. Tracy was apparently quite outclassed by his sturdier, cleverer and much craftier opponent. I Quite the best item on the programme was the six-round go between the ama- j teurs Coward (Wellington) and Shields (Palmcrston). Both lads were frequently applauded, and when the verdict went lo Shields the big house gave the game Palmerston lad quite an ovation. 3. C. Morris (Levin) also received warm appreciation for liie plucky showing against a -stronger and more skilled opponent in L. Murphy (Wellington), who won pfl'nts.
