AMUSEMENTS.
"THE MAGISTRATE." The Theatre Royal was fairly well filled last night when the New Plymouth amateurs re-played Pinero's farcical comedy, "The .Magistrate," in aid of the New Plymouth Recreation Grounds. The piece was again capitally staged, and the whole performance was in every particular worthy of a professional company. The high standard of perfection, is a distinct credit to Mr. V. 3. Easther, who was responsible for the production of the piece in the first place, and to the capabilities of the amateurs who have associated themselves with him. It is to be hoped that this band of artists will not be allowed to disband, but that the public will on many future occasions experience the pleasure of witnessing their productions upon the New Plymouth stage, where they will always be sure of a welcome. Outside of the players themselves, credit must be given to Mr. Perry's orchestra, which played capitally between the varioiH scenes, and Mr. F. Stevens, who I designed ami painted the scenery. The members of the Recreation Grounds Board filled the positions of cashiers, ushers, and so on, thus swelling the proceeds by reducing the expense.
