WHY NOT TARANAKI?

'RIFLE. TEAMS FOR AUSTRALIA. As published in our telegraphic news the other day, it has been decided to send a. combined Otago and Southland ritle team to Sydney to compete at the forthcoming rille championship meeting. Such a project has been mentioned here more than once, but the matter was not taken up, presumably because Turanaki was not pressing enough to break the ice. Now that the southern people have opened the way, there semis no reason why there should not be a Tarnnaki provincial team—if it can be financed. Money is the only trouble. It is suggested to us that from the following a team could be selected that would do credit to Taranaki, and which would be sure to get well into the prize-list: —Captain Okev, Privates A. Marett, T. Marett. F. Nicholls, T. King, W. Bruce, A. Humphries and Corp. Arinitngc (volunteers), and Riflemen C. Speck, W. Speck, M. Madden, A. 11. Guy, M. Stanilish. M. Marsh, G. (.'. Grovcr,'Dr. D. W. Maolagan and T. Robinson. The matter is not likely to be proceeded with unless the various shooting units take it up promptly and vigorously, and it is suggested that one of the officers should call a meeting to decide whether it is possible to send the team this year.
