ENDOWING A CHAIR AT OTAGO UNIVERSITY. By Telegmpn.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At the Otflgo University Council meeting to-day, the committee previously appointed to devise ways and means of utilising Mr. Studholmc's offer to endow a chair of domestic .economics presented -their report. They found that the annual cost would be £7OO, namely, £6OO for salary and £IOO for contingencies. Towards this there would be available Mr. Studholme's contribution of £2OO and the Government subsidy thereon for a like amount. They undertook to raise the half remaining, £3OO, on the understanding that it would also carry a Government subsidy for a like amount. They would also undertake to furnish £IOO, of which half should be subsidised, to enable a teacher to be appointed to travel before coming to New Zealand, and also to raise £75, which with a subsidy would make £l5O, for equipping a loom, if one were given for the purpose, the contributions to be for four years, and the committee promised to further the proposed scheme by personal influence. The Council decided to consider the proposals at a special meeting nexi week.
