DISTRICT NEWS
WAITARA. (From Our Own Correspondents.) The second anniversary of the Methodist Young People's Bible Class was held in the l>'orestevs' Hali on Thursday evening. The secretary's report showed that the interest of the class had been maintained throughout the past year, with the exception of a few weeks, in the middle of the summer. Mr. and Mrs. McAllum were unanimously elected leaders for the ensuing year, and Mv. H. Joll secretary. After the annual meeting a well-attended social was held and was most enjoyable. Vocal items were rendered by the Misses Pearce, Messrs Scully, Minifie and McAllum. 'Recitations were given by Miss Keeve, Mr. V. Tate and Rev. F. T. Kead, while Mrs. Scully, Miss Thomas and Mr. H. Joll gave pleasing performances on the pianoforte. During the course of the evening Rev. F. T. Read gave an address on the work of the Bible Class, and moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. McAllum for their work as leaders during the past year. This was carried by acclamation. Supper was provided, and after a few games were indulged in a pleasant evening was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem.
The Clifton Ist junior footballers held a most .successful basket social in St. John's Hall on Thursday evenmg, when about 30 couples were present. Mr. X?. Kyle undertook the responsibility of selling the baskets, which realised fair prices. The music was supplied by the Waitara Orchestra and extras by Misses Kattenbury, Badley, Nichollg and Tancred. During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs. Haines, Misses Jensen, Badley and Tancred and Mr. Hart. Mr. N. Kyle acted as M.C.
