DON CARLOS. By Cable.—Press Association.--Copyrigat Received July 10, 11.0 p.m. Kome, July 10. Obituary: Don Carlos, Duke of Madrid, from apoplexy, at Vcresc, Italy. The late Duke was born in 1848, and, as grand-nephew of Ferdinand \il., claimed the crown of Spain on the ground that Isabella, daughter of Ferdinand VII and Christina, and mother ol Alfonso XII, owing to the Salic law was debarred from the succession. Like his grandfather and uncle, who foughi tor their rights, Don Clarlos took up arms in 1872, and reigned as diaries VII over the greater part of northern Spain until 1870, when, being surrounded by the forces of Alfonso Xll, who had just been proclaimed king at Madrid, he retired into France. He was undisputed senior and male heir of the House of Bourbon, and as such Don Carlos would have had a distinct right to the throne of France had France restored its monlarchy.
