Giving evidence before the l'ostal ■Commission, the vice-president of the Letter Carriers' and Sorters' Association declared that a largo percentage of the deaths from tuberculosis amongst the sorters was due to tile unhealthy conditions under which the men worked. The complaints made were not heeded. It was estimated that 8 per cent, of the deaths among tie sorters were caused by consumption. In the opinion of witness, the habit of people lickng stamps coniimiiiicated consumption to the sorters.
