He wa« carried to England, but was restored to liberty in 1032. He returned to Canada in the next year, and died there two years afterwards. The Chaniplain Lake, lying between tae States of New York and Vermont, in North America, owes its name to the French explorer, by whom it was dis™'"«l about 1608. During the war of was rendered famous by the defeat of the English fleet in an engagement which took place in 1814.
