ihe boy occupied an upstairs room, and was heard coining downstairs. lie met his father, who was aroused by tiic boy walking about in the dining-room,, at the loot of the stairs. The boy hail in his possession a gun belonging to lis father, and he immediately lircd, shooting .Mr. Xye through the neck. Airs. Nye was aroused and called to 'her husband. _ Receiving Jio reply, she called to two other children who occupied an upstairs room, telling them to ttee. She then rushed fro m the house for safety. The boy tried to intercept her, hut she escaped him. The boy then left the house. The police were communicated with, and have traced the boy to the Whirokino road, leading to Levin, it is thought ne is waking for Wellington, It is rumored that the boy ,!v.id threatened to kill his lather, and on several occasions had run away from home. He carried away the gun with him.
THE MURDERER'S XOXCHALENCE. TRIES TO SHOOT Hi's MOTHER. Paliuerstou N., Monday. The youth, whose name is Hedley Nye, was apprehended at Levin station this morning by Constable Bagric, who is stationed there. The constable wrote down on a piece of paper that lie was being arrested on a charge of murdering his lather, and .the youth, taking a pencil, simply wrote, ''Ves." According to the arresting constable, accused was very quiet and does not at all scein to realise that he has committed a desperate deed. Accused will be taken to I'oxton, where an inquest will be held on the body of deceased, probably to-day, but most likely to-morrow. The following additional particulars are available from other sources:—When Mrs Nye discovered the deed had been committed she at once lied from the house. Accused, it is stated, pursued her across some paddocks, but Mrs. Nye succeeded in making her escape to a neighbor's. On learning of the occurrence, the latter wenf back'to the house and took away the two children left, one a girl 18 .years of age, a sister of the accused, and then communicated with the (police. The children bad locked their doors and barricaded themselves in. Accused took the gun with him when he left the house for Levin, and had it in his possession, together with cartridges, when he was arrested.
