A MAORI TROUPE
OFF TO AMERICA. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A party of 40 natives left Rotorua by this morning's train for Wellington, en route for America, where they are to perform for nine months at the New York Hippodrome. They were given a great send-off, many thousands assembling on the railway station, all the shops being closed to permit ol the whole town witnessing the departure. The company will first go to Tahiti; thence they sail by the Mariposa for San Francisco, being due at the latt r place about the 31st inst. The journey to New York will occupy about a week longer. Mr. Mcßridc, the representative of the New York' Hippodrome, is well satisfied with the selection made, and is confident the natives will make a big hit. The men are of a fine, stalwart class, and the poi girls are charming. Mr. W. Farmer Whyte, late of the New Zealand Herald, accompanies the company as manager, and he expresses himself as more than satisfied with the selection;
