POLICE COMMISSION. Christehurch, Saturday Night. .Mr. Bishop, who will conduct the Police Commission, left Christehurch for Dunei'r.n to-day. He will open the Commission on Wednesday at Invercargill, afterwards sitting at Duncdin. He will then come back to Christehurch, but the date of the sitting cannot be fixed. It is not sure whether he will proceed to Wellington or the West Coast after Christehurch.
PLENTY OF SURVEYORS. Wellington, Saturday. At a meeting of the Council of New Zealand Institute of Surveyors reference was made to a complaint that settlement is being retarded through lack of surveyors. The council was firmly of opinion that plenty of surveyors' are available capable of doing any "class of work required by the Government.
THE WE ATI! KR. Christehurch, Saturday. Heavy and continuous rain postponed til the afternoon's hockey and football fixtures. GOVERNOR AT THE ISLANDS, liuratonga, June 23. The Governor arrived to-day in H.M..S. Challenger after a delightful trip. He will visit Mangaia, Atua and Aitutaki before returning here for the official reception. He will spend a day or two at each island.
