LIGHTENING THE LICENSEES' BLOW. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. , I lie current hotel licenses will expire oji Wednesday next, and on that dale the various hotels which have failed to secure renewals of licenses as a result of the last local option poll will '• o»e their bars. Tile number of hot* that will be clewed will be 28, of which "are in Oliiiienmri and i in Eden, in both of which districts no-licensc was earned. The closing of the remaining 10 ■ hotels has been brought about by 1 reduction. With the view of lightening the blow that is to fall on the licensees of the ■ve hotels that are to he closed in the city, the Auckland Licensed Victuallers' Association has decided to make a canvasi among members w ith a view of collecting £IOOO, to be equally divided amongst the liotelkeepersairected.
