THE MINING INDUSTRY.
DEEP LEVEL DEVELOPMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Thames, Last Night. An important conference took place to-day regarding deep level development, between Mr. Frank liecd (Government Mining Engineer)), the local inspectors o'f mines, and representatives ana mine managers of companies interested. It was stated that the following companies, namely, May Queen, Saxon, Victoria, and Waiotahi, had agreed oil a scheme pf development to cross-cut in a direct line from the Queen Beauty shaft to tlie Caledonian shaft. The Kuranm Caledonian Home Company would advise in a few days as to their decision. The cost would be about £IB,OOO, five companies paying £2OOO each and the Government providing £BOOO. The Bcheme was of great importance to the district. It is believed that at a thousand feet, to which the main shaft has now been sunk, another rich goldfield will be opened up.. The result of the conference has given satisfaction, as now nothing remains in the way of deep level development.
