SIR JOSEPH WARD.

ENTERTAINED IN VICTORIA. | A TRIBUTE TO HIS PERSONALITY. \ Received June 23, 10.50 p.m. , Melbourne, June 23. , The members of the State Cabinet , welcomed Sir Joseph Ward and enter- , taincd him to luncheon in Parliameit buildings. In addition to the State Ministers there were present Mr. A. Deakin (Federal Premier), Mr. Cook, and Sir John Forrest. The latter proposed the guest's health, in the absence of Mr. Deakin, who had to leave tiq attend the opening of the Federal Parliament. He said Sir Joseph Ward was recognised as a very strong man throughout Australia and England. He had accomplished a great work during his strenuous public career. Australia was proud of his latest act in offering the New Zealand Dreadnought. He regarded the coining conference as the greatest event in history since the days of Napoleon. He wished him a successful mission, and was sure Sir Joscpi Ward would take a leading and distinguished part in its proceedings. Sir Joseph Ward, in replying, said he was proud to represent loyal New Zealand. He regarded the conference as a momentous one in the Empire's histor.-. He would gladly co-operate with Australia's representatives in the promotion of the Empire's interests. The party of Ministers gave Sir Joseph Ward an enthusiastic send-off.
