John Hemingway, the young man recently brought iback to Wellington from Sydney, was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with stealing £lO worth of tweed from C. H. Dickcrson's warehouse in Wellington. Accused was remanded for a week . Bail was allowed in accused's own bond of £l5O, with two sureties of £75 each, CHARGES AGAINST A BOARDINGHOUSE KEEPER. Wellington, Last Night. David Barrio was charged in the Magistrate's Court to-day before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., in connection with the raid on a boardinghouse in Taranaki place. There were two informations, one charging defendant with while the occupier of the Paragon Boardinghouse on the 15th 'May being privy to the sale of liquor; (2) being found in the Paragon Boardinghouse on the 20th May when liquor was seized and with having been on the premises for the purpose "f illegally dealing in liquor. The former information was taken first. Mr. Herdman submitted that the case must be dismissed. There was no evidence given that Bnrrie hadraything to do with the tenancy of the premises! There was no evidence that Barrio was privy to the sale of any liquor. Sergt. Darhy reminded 'his Worship that evidence had ■ already been submitted that Barrie had ■ given orders in the Paragon Boardingl house, thus proving that he had some- : thing to do with the tenancy. His i Worship remarked that the parties had i agreed that tile evidence given in the I case against Mary Aim Barrie would ■ hold good in this case. He would like i to review that evidence. Judgment . would bo reserved till Saturday. The s second charge was also adjourned to ■ that date.
