DAIRY WORKERS.
AX AKIUTItATION AWARD. The Arbitration Court has made an award in connection with the dairy workers' dispute. The. main points are: Hours not to exceed 70 hours per week of seven- days, exclusive of meal hours; hours of work in creameries to be arranged between employers and workers. Wages in butter and cheese factories— Where onlv one adult worker, other •than manager, is employed, he slnll j»ot be paid less than £2 per week, with free sleeping accommodation; two adult workers, the first &% ss, the second Zl a week; three adult workers, first £2 10s a week, second £2 ss, third S.I; other hands', not including youths, £1 17s Od. engine-driver, £3 where flratiliss certificate is required. Wages of e;v.imery managers shall not he less than £2 a week, with firewood, milk, and suitable living 'accommodation. Youths sh»ll he paid—From 111 to' 18, SX a week; from 18 to 20, £1 10s a week. Every wqrker who shall have worked for not less thai) eight months during the same year for the same employer shall receive fourteen days' holiday on full pay; holidays of proportionate duration to be given according to length of time of work. Piecework shall not be allowed, but empfoyers are entitled to have work done by contract. T.h e award shall come into force on 31st May, 1009, and continue in force until Slat March, 1910.
