The second wicket fell with the score at 123, and the next three wickets Ml rapidly. Bardsley batted for 95 minuter After Hansford's dismissal, the fifth wicket 'being down for 145, a good partnership commenced between Trumper and Any strong. Both commenced carefully with small hits and occasional fourcrs. Trumper gave a hard chance at 14 to Jones, who attempted to take it left hand at mid-off off llallam. At the, luncheon adjournment the second century was up for 150 minutes' play. The batting was brilliant, eleven resulting rrom one over of Hards,taff'e. Trurnper's half-century was made inside of 70 minutes. Shortly after resuming Trumper lost his wicket by trying to "pull" Halam. His innings was brilliant, after a quiet start. It occupied 110 minutes, and included 12 fourers. Armstrong made 55 in 58 minutes without a mistake. The. sixth wicket fell at 287, and Armstrong became much freer. Cotter gave a chance when seven. Indulging in hard-hitting, he sent up a tremendous "skyer," which was missed by the wicketkecper, Gates. Armstrong's century appeared for 170 minutes' play. It was flawless, and he was cheered, ne made one fiver (four runs of which, were from an overthrow) and 10 fours. When stumps' were drawn Notts 'iad two wickets down for 58.

The home team made a poor showing in their second innings, the Australians securing an easy victory by an innings and six runs. Laver was not folding owing i« slight strain. a substitute taking Ins place. Hardstaff, in the second innings, was dean bowled bv Armstrong. Payton. before scoring, gave a chance to Whitty, at mid-off, off Cotter. The fourth wicket fell at 81, and the sixth at 97. The century was Jioisti-il after 140 minutes' play. Alletson batted 2.5 minutes, his scoring including two sixes. He drove Whitty over the ring to long-on, and lifted Armstrong to square-leg.
