Alfred Smith, age.l 17, residing with a friend at .Mount Kden, was found in his bedroom staggering about Willi a gnsii in nis throat from ear to ear. He died jusl as tiic doctor arrived, TIIROWX FROM A HOUSE. Taihape, April 19. A serious accident occurred to Xormaii (lowdy, aged nine, son of a Ruanui settler, yesterday. He was bucked oir a horse and failed to clear the stirrup iron. The horse kicked him into the air, fracturing his skull seriously. The boy was brought in this morning, about fifteen miles, and sent to the \U.igauui Hospital. He has not yet regained consciousness. A GRUESOME DISCOVERY, Dunedin. Last Xight. A young lady and her brother were walking along the Purakanui beach this afternoon when they observed a headless i body close to the shore. 'The body was . dressed in a blue jersey and dark trousers. They immediately returned to Dunedin, and communicated with the police, who will go out to the locality | ! to make a search first thing in the morn- I nig. A FATAL COLLISION'. Wellington, Monday. A joung married man named (leorge Ernest Murray died in the hospital this morning as (he result of injuries received in an accident on Saturday. While riding a bicycle he collided with th;. horses in an express, and had his collar-bone broken and skull fractured. CiiKiSTcnrnen street accident. Cliristchnrch. Last Night. In connection with the accident to James Smalt in llarbadoes street on Saturday evening, the police slate that the occurrence took place through Smart colliding with a cart'driven by a man named Edward Wright, employed bv his fathi r. a manufacturer of aerated water. Wright slates he was dviving along Biirbadoei street at about 11.3(1. He was on his right side, with lamps burning on the carl. A man shot out from Hereford street on a bicycle and ran between the horse's legs. The wheel of the cart passed over him. and the horse received a fright and dashed down the road for about a chain before be could pull it up. On going hack, he found that Smart <'"' ""' s II to be very badly hurt. Ikwas able to give his name, and then was placed in a cab and taken to his home. The injured man is progrcssiiitr favorably at the hospital.
A distressing fatal accident (v.avrrccl yesterday morning at Denbigh road. Midbirst. when a little girl named lliurza Catherine Welly, n.ircd three years and three months, "was burned to death through he,- dress catching fire from a candle flume, whil" her parents were engaged in the cowsheds. Two other older children were in the house, but could do nothing.
