FOOTBALL

NORTHERN UNION LEAGUE. The first annual meeting of the Northern Union Football League was held last evening. Fourteen attended. Mr. P. Mcllvride occupied the chair. The secretary read the balance-sheet which showed receipts for the season at £26 10s Cd; expenditure £24 Ss 4d; leaving a credit balance, of £2 2s 2d. The balance-sheet as read was adopted subject to audit, Mr. C. McLean be--1 ing appointed auditor. It was pointed out that teams wouhl he formed under Northern Union rules at Eltham, Hawera, and Okato-Warea. There were sufficient players m New Plymouth to form two playing teams, and probably more. It was resolved that u club lie formed, to be called the "Now Plymouth Northern Union Club."

I The chairman pointed out that there I was a feeling amongst a large section of the public that football under Northern rules meant professionalism. He felt positive that this would not lie 1 the case in New Zealand, as sufficient matches could not lie arranged. Tt was true that members would have expenses paid, such as train fares, meals, etc. The reason that football under Northern rules was being introduced was that many players recognised that better football was (obtained. The game was more interesting and cleaner. The following officers were appointed: President, Mr. P. McTlvride; vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. Stagpoole, H. flilboy, P. Jacobs, and H. -George; secretary and treasurer, -Mr. G. Blanchard (pro tern.); club captain, A. Hardgravo; management comniitee, B. Frewin, T. Smith, W. McLean, L. Walsh. C. McLean, with officers ex officio; auditor. Mr. 0. McLean. The selection committee, to consist of three members, is to be appointed by the management committee.

The subscriptions for the year were fixed at 5s for honorary members and 2s (id for playing members. The following names were handed in as playing members:—C. McLean, W. McLean. S. Loveridge, F. Jones. L. Walsh. L. Ballot. B. O'Driscoll, E. Loveridge. P. Allan. T. Smith, B. Frewin. F. Loveridge, W. Morris (, A. Hardgrave, S. Stroud, E. Haskell, C. Johnson, E. Bellringer. W. Morey, D. Mason, M. Julian, B. Oakes, J. Tickner. W. Boulton. C. Evetts. Votes of thanks to the chair and Press terminated the meeting.
