By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Shortly after two o'clock this morning an alarm of fire was given, to the brigade. The outbreak, which was iu ■the roof of llr. Leicester Matron's house at Merivale, was ke.pt in check by the motor chemical, and filially extinguished by a hand chemical without much damage being done. An accident delayed the hor.se chemical as it wa« proceeding up I'apanui road. An electric car ill front suddenly stopped, and an open ditch, part of the excavations for tilie water .supply, made it impossible to turn off, and the engine crashed into the rear of the car. The pole went through one of the back windows and broke off, but no further damage was don«.
