Dr. Giuseppe t.'apra, Doctor i.i .Natural and Agricultural Sei. ncc, who is on an ollicial scientific mission from Italy, arrived by the .Melbourne boat yesterday, and is just now in Invereargill. Me has spent over four months in Australia and Tasmania, end proposes to tour New Zealand. His special object is ic, >tudy the agricultural resources of tne colonies for immigration purposes, lie himself is strongly opposed to contract immigration, such as was proposed in Western Australia not long ago, and anything in the nature of the, formation of' Italian villages in the •States he is against, [lis idea is to take back to Italy information that may be of u,e in directing free settlers to lands s„ (hat, they may go abroad and become citizens of their adopted countries. Dr. Capra speaks highly of the kindly treatment in Australia, and of the friendly cordiality with which Mr Fisher, the Federal Prime Minister, listened to what he had! to say, and promised to help the stranger. He (the visitor) was given every facility for •currying out his work in Australia, including the granting of a pass over the railways. Dr. Caprn is an enthusiastic student, and a lover of his people and a most interesting man.
