MISSING VOTING PAPERS.
DETECTIVES' INVESTIGATIONS. Bv Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night, l'or some days past Chief Detective Herbert ami Detective Mcllveney have been making enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the mystery of the seventeen missing ballot papers which disappeared after the official re-count of the Becond ballot in Dunedin. Lsut night all the persons engaged in cornicetion wittv the re-count met in Mr. D. Larnach's (returning officer's) office, the two detectives being present. A document, which is alleged to have been communicated to one of the candidates, was produced, and gave rise to considerable discussion and explanation by some of those present. It is said that the officials concerned in the inquiry have satisfied themselves as to how, when, and by whom the papers were abstracted. The detectives engaged will report the result of their inquiries to the Govern* mcnt.
