DENTAL CONFERENCE.
iiy Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Lust Night. | The fifth annual convention ot the New Zealand Dental Association was opened to-day at Parliament liinnlrags. Mr. Arthur Hohy, L.D.8., president of the Association, occupied the chair. Dr. Sykes, a representative from San Francisco, representing the Rental department of the College of l'hysiciaus and Surgeons, was also present. An item of public interest in the annual report and balance-sheet, which were adopted, was the outline of a scheme drawn up by Messrs. SUcane, Dixon and Carter, of Auckland, for elementary lectures to be handed over to the Education Department for introduction into the schools of the Dominion, Publication of the details is withheld pending the result of full discussion by the conference. The importance of the question was recognised by the delegates present as affecting national development. It was acknowledged that the dental profession was the proper source of proposals for reforms in the direction of ensuring the proper treatment of children's teeth. The opinion was expressed that a similar scheme in use in the German schools, and forming an important item in tin curriculum, justified steps being taken in New Zealand to combat the evil. The question will receive full discussion at the conference.
Mr. C. W. Hay, of Dunedin, was appointed by the conference special representative to the Berlin Dental Convention, to be held in August next, of the New Zealand Dental Association.
