By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The second biennial conference of the New Zealand Federated Typographical Industrial Association was opened in 'Wellington to-day. Mr. C. H. Chapman, president of the Federation, was elected chairman. Jfe said the Federation now comprised seven blanches (from Auckland down to Southland) with a membership of over 850, and the conference was thoroughly • representative of the craft. There was a growing opinion among members of the Federation Unit hand compositors should not be called upon to work more than forty-four hours per week. The conference proceeded to discuss the desirableness of ostublishiii" a monthly trade Journnl, a motion bein° earned to that effect.
