CHESS CONGRESS.
By Telegraph.—l'ress Association. Uimcdin, Last Night. The morning session was devoted to unfinished games in the second round, kclling v. Davics (Ruy Lopez). The game was entered upon with knight, bishop and pawns on each side, Kelling being a pawn up. At the 05th move the game was still unfinished, and a further adjournment will probably be made till Thursday night. Forsyth v. Harnc-i (King's gambit declined), For>yrh lost exchange in getting rid of a dangerous bishop. He lost exchange again shortly afterwards and resigned on the 35th move.
The third round resulted as follows: Barnes v. Kellng (Caro Kami Defranch), oil the 27th move Barnes took' his opponents rook under a mistaken impression that he was giving check, and thereby lost his Queen and the game. Davis v. Mason (Kuy Lopez)—Macon's knight, got into trouble on the 11-th move, and his efforts to extricate it gave Davies an opportunity of attacking strongly. Mason resigned on the 47th move, being unoble to prevent a pawn from queening. Dodds v. Fox (Giuoco Piano)— Fox lost a lniight by hasty play by sacrificing a bishop. Later he won brilliantly on the 25th move. Edwards v. Forsyth Z(ukertort's opening).—A very' tuogli game./ Edwards advanced liis King's side pawns, thereby keeping Forsyth's forces, especially his bishops, inoperative. Later be succumbed on the fiftieth move. Gricrson had a bye.
