PEDIGREE STOCK SALE.
| DISPERSAL OF JERSEY HERD. •PRINCIPAL PURCHASERS ARE TARANAKI BREEDERS. . There was a very large attendance, UK-lading visiting Jersey breeders Iron, other parts, at Messrs. Griffiths and Cornwall's Corbett Road farm yesterday, when the whole of their "famed Jersey herd was submitted to the hammer without reserve, owing t» their dfisiuji to give up the fancy, for a time Jit least. \ery complete arrangements had been made for the conveyance of buyer, to the farm and for the conduct of the sale. Stands had been erected iw the conveuieace of purchasers, and these were insufficient, about a hundred of the three hundred present distributing themselves about the ring in varied fashion. Amongst those present were I i «-'"A ''• A - <iilruth > Ca l ltai " Y<miiK. .». H - Deem, and H. Munro, of the Agricultural Department, and Messrs. J °\V I i*„*' S '. R - Oleaster, A. Buchanan; t. Clarke, A. E. Watkins, and other wellknown Jersey men. Messrs. Griffiths and Cornwall have for some years been known as prominent Jersey breeders, lhe sale was conducted by Mr. Newton King, Mr. S. W. Shaw wielding the ha miner and getting through the Di" contract n excellent style. Bidding on the whole, was fairly brisk. The now famous Grannie's Gi'rl was but a ghost of her real self, owing to udder complaint contracted during her visit to the recent Palmerston show, and she was sold for 8a guineas to Mr. T. Luvton. It had been expected that she would bring nearer 150. The imported
bull Campanile's Sultan was bought by Mr. Charles Clarke, of New Plymouth, who, we hope, will find it a profitable thing to keep this animal in this district. The first bid for this bull was 50gns, and tens took the figure I > lOOgns, Messrs. Clarke and Paton running it up to 140gns, when the field was left to Mr. C. Clarke. Mr. E. Griffiths, who bought Magnet's Peggy, was prepared to go to 150gns for her. The 78 lots realised 2592 guineas, or an average of 33y 4 gns. The highest prices were £147 and £B9 as, and the lowest £7 7s for a call. The following are the particulars of the sale:—
