He defended the increase of the navy, which, lie said, was owing to Germany'! rapid economic expansion, He believed Britain's mistrust and antagonism were not unconquerable. There was 110 imminent danger of war, if coolness and calmness in the conduct of affairs were displayed at home and abroad. • Hcrr Pydow contended that Germany would be able to hear the proposed increases of taxes on beer, spirits and tobacco. which, he ,pointed out, were sli much lower than the same taxes were in Britain.
