Tiniaru, Last Night, The holiday passed oil' very quietly. The only attraction in town was the professional athletic meeting. The at tendance was very small though the weather was very line. There were too many counter attractions, including carnival week at Christcliurc'h and many picnics.
I'ulmerston Xorlii. Last Night, The weather was line but cold for the holiday to-day. Special trains brought in large crowds of holiday-makers To see the military tournament 011 the Show-grounds, at which about ten thousand people were present. The gate takings amounted to £489. The tournament was a great success in every 1 I way, and the various competitions were close and exciting. The visit of the men of 11.M.5. Encounter was a great attraction. Captain Tyler, in responding to the welcome 01 the Mayor and member lor the district, complimented Palmerston. on the tournament, expressing the hope that it would be an annual event and that the men of the Encounter would again be present. A silver challenge cup for physical drill was won jy the Wellington OiLy 'Rifles with 95y 3 points, the marines of the Encounter being second with D 3%.
