ANGLICAN SYNOD.

CLEUU IMKVS STIPENDS, By Telegraph.—i'l-esicj Association. Duiicdin, Last Night. Ai a iticetii)tr uf Anglican aynod to-day, -Mr. A. vVasher brougtit forward a motion in favor of steps tfeiug taken to bring under the notice of vestries throughout the diocese the advisability 01 increasing the stipends of clergy. The mover said lie -found the average stipend of country clergymen was Jess thau £l5O per annum, and. lie thought such. a state of a flairs a scandal to tile Church, though at no period in the history of the Church were good men mors urgently needed. They could not expect men of the right stamp to devote their lives to study and the Church for a mere pittance. Mr. Talboys, in seconding the motion, said the stipends paid to clergymen were a disgrace to the Church, but the difficulty was to find a remedy. The trouble was due to the fact that there ware only a few in such parishes who would support the Church. The Rev. W. Cnram-»Siggers said" the system of paying clergymen would never be satisfactory until they hud a central fund. into which all revenue should be paid and from which stipends might be paid. Rev. H. L. Snow and Dr. Hoeken also spoke, after which the discussion was adjourned till tb-jwor-row.
