' ALLEGED CIU.Ut.NAL ASSAULT. By Telegraph.—-Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The numbers of charges against men, young and old, of committing grave as- | saults upon little girls has been unpleasantly frequent of late, almost every week bringing forlh one or more of these indictments. This afternoon another was added to the list, a young man named Herbert McKay being arrested on a charge of having committed a criminal assault upon a little girl at Mt. Eden. Detective Miller, in asking for a remand at the Police Court this afternoon, said the offence waa alleged to have been committed in a barber's shop at Alt. Eden, in which the accused was employed. McKay was remanded until Monday next, bail being fixed in two sureties, each at £SO. WELLINGTON CASES. Wellington, Tuesday. At the Supreme Court to-day William Henry Carlson, a sailor, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment oil charges of theft. A similar sentence was imposed on James Mason, alias Good, charged with theft from a dwelling at Woodville. Assad Bailout, a Syrian dealer, was to-day granted a decree nisi for tlie dissolution of his marriage with Caroline Bahout on the ground of desertion,
