It was requested that the Post Office should be elevated ia status to a Chief Post Office; Mia't the telephone service, with the surrounding centres, should be extended; that freight rates on the Manawatu railway when the Government assumed control should remain as at present and that a bond should be established at Palmcrston. The lirst request, tile Premier mid, was impossible to grant. The Post OiTnee already possesses all the < advantages of a Chief Post Office. To grant all the. telephone requests now made would cost about £7,000,000 and the present service with Wellington ■ could be improved. As to the rates , ! on tihe.
