Die Auw Zealand Federation of diners, wiuicli has been meeting in Welmgton since tlie beginning of the week ijiened its proceedings to the Press for I lie lirst time this afternoon. The elec- i -ion of the lirst set of officers resulted : is follows:—President, Mr. Bobert Simile (ljimolly) ; vice-president, Sir. F. Armstrong (H'aihi); secretary, M r , Ji, Manning (W.nk«to); treasurer, Mr. .1. Scanlon (Waihi); executive, the foregoing and Messrs. J. Dowgray (tirailHy), C. Fry (Inangahua) and John ioster (Denniston). it was resolved that it be a recommendation to Hie executive that i hey urge the striking of a duty upon gold for the benefit of the mineral sick and accident fund; tlrat stops lie taken to urge the passage of legislation providing for a six hours' shift for miners in places where the temperature exceeds HO degrees; that stops bo taken to secure legislation to oppose all unreasonable consolidation of laws; that the Federation .defer registration until such time as the members have Iliad an opportunity of judging of the working of tiie new amendments to the Act. and that in the meantime the Federation register under the Trades Act; further, that a referendum be taken on- the question and submitted | to the next conference.
