♦ . ■ FEDERAL HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Melbourne, October 18. The Federal House of Representatives las adjourned till next Tuesday. When it re-assembles Mr. G. H. Keid, Leader of the Opposition, wdl move a want-of-confidence motion relating to the Uudgct proposals. A Bill providing that in the event of total loss by fire a policyholder should be entitled to the whole of the amount a property was insured for was negatived.
The House resolved that promotions under the new military service system should be made in accordance with merit, not length of service. TASMANIAN ASSEMBLY. . Hobart, October 10. The Assembly yesterday resumed the debate on the want-of-confidence motion relating to the payment of extra fees to two judges in consideration for their doing the work of three. The Premier read a letter from the judges concerned, notifying that, if the extra pay were voted, they would not accept it. The Premier therefore mojeed that the amount should be struck out. This was carried. During the debate it was intimated that the judges intended to refund the £250 extra already received.
