THE WAR AGAINST POVERTY. London, October 15. j Mr. John Burns, President of the Local Government Hoard, speaking at Tyneinouth, said no legislation relating to the right to work or the problem of unemployment would be introduced this session, but it would be ready by next session. Much more would be spent in distressed areas in relief of a non-pauper character than lind been spent, during the whole period of the Uuicashiic cotton famine. Speaking at Newcastle, Mr. Burns declared that lie refused to be a party to panic legislation in regard to unemployment.
The war against poverty, he said, was not to be a skirmish, but a long, dogged campaign, lasting perhaps a century.
WILL THORXE SUMMONED.
London, October 15, The police have summoned Mr. Will Thjorne, Laljor M t P., to answer it charge of inciting the unemployed in Trafalgar Square on the 10th instant to rush the bakers' shops.
