REVOLUTION IN ROAD MAKING
CONCRETE WHEEL-TRACKS. TO BE TRIED AT ELTHAM. At the Eltliara County Council meeting on Saturday, Messrs. J. Marx ami C. A. Williamson, on behalf of the Bashaw Concrete Block Company, Ltd., offered to lay 30 chains of the Ekhaiu road from Stewart road west with the blocks. The company offered to make and lay the blocks at £lO per chain (that being the inventor's estimate of cost). Recognising that the new proposal was to an extent experimental, the company was willing to take half the risk and accei>; payment of ;C"> per chain when the blocks wore laid, the remaining Sio per chain to be paid if the blocks were satisfactory after a six-months' trial. Mr. Marx said thsit that part of th. 1 road had been chosen because it burr as heavy traffic us any road in the county. There was a sharp dip there. On the motion of Councillor .Swadling it was resolved to accept the company's offer, the Mangatoki riding members and the chairman to decide the portion of the road to be laid.
