HORSE PARADE

The annual parade of stallions under the auspices of the Taranaki Agricultural Society was held on Saturday, perfect weather conditions prevailing. A good number of breeders mid fanners attended, keen interest being displayed iu examining the animals on parade. Altogether tell horses paraded, several being absent owing to tiie distance from home being rather far for horses iu big condition. Mr. Jas. Mitchell's two draught sires, Empire ami McFiiierson, to stand in the Waitara and surrounding country were unavoidably absent. Considering the iact that the breeding season does not open in. earnest until October, the horses all paraded in excellent fettle. The animals were put through their paces in Egmoiit street and ill the section opposite l lie railway station. The types show u included hackney, roadster, trotting, coaching, and Clydesdale. HACKNEY, COACHING & TROTTING. Ironsand, a line upstanding dappled grey, of massive proportions, showing any amount of good bone and substance, stood iii tlie Inglewood district part of last season. This horse is a very useful sort, quiet in any kind of harness and possessing a beautiful temper. Ironsand should have no dlliiculty in filling his book as a sire for getting horses of the general utility order. This vear Ironsand will be at the service of breeders in the New Plymouth, Inglewood, Waitara, Tarata, Egmont Village, and Kent road districts. 'Motor, a brisk chestnut, by Jersey, belongs to th e Inglewood district, ile is a pretty type of horse, wiLli any amount of spirit and plenty of style. Motor was bred by .Messrs. Olsen Bros., of Egmont Village, and has sired soint very useful sorts. Victory, Dr. Harrison's imported English hackney, has furnished up a good deal since last parade, and is in great heart, lie is a rich bay in color and a perfect model of the type he represents. Victory is a very fashionable stepper, possessing all the action and style looked for by lovers of the English hackney. He will be at the stud in the Elthani district.

His breeding is particularly clean and full, and li 0 should be a good sire tor breeding useful, fast horses with stamina. Count Belden, Jlr G. Anion's upstanding trotting horse, is by that line old horse Judge Belden, This horse is now standing for his third seasin in these •parts, which demonstrates that he is in favor with breeders. Those desiring to grow well-bred, fast, and fashionabbstepping animals should find Count Belden's qualifications most suitable for the purpose. Silver King, a roan hackney by Silver Spec, is owned by Mr. A. Alexander, of Moturoa. Silver King is a very useful type and he is a fast, useful horse in harness. l'or obtaining hard-wearing roadsters and serviceable liacks Silver King has much to recommend him. THOROUGHBREDS. Gilnockic, Jlr. Xf. Jones' pretty Moot* stallion, is looking fresher Ilia 11 ever. He is a perfuctlv proportioned horse with good measurements and hard, clean bone. Since last season Gilnockic has thickened out in the barrel and loins and has developed a handsome _crest ; 111-. Jones Jias a dainfiy "Mg-liUle" horse., in Gilnockic, and any lover of the graceful thoroughbred type will have a task io pick a fault in this game little sire. 'Stepson is a new importation to this district, and is a very line specimen if the true thoroughbred. He is by that notable horse Slepniak. Stepson paraded ill good fettle, and shows ally quantity of good substance. He is a well-put-together sire, with elean, hard bone in his legs and good ieet. Altogether, Stepson is a handsome horse and js already in considerable demand. During the season he will travel between Oakura, Inglewood, and Waitara. CLYDESDALES. "What's Wanted, belonging to Mr. A. X. Mills, of OniMa, is one of the most useful horse s in the province. He was grown aC Mr. F. A. Bremer's stud, Okaiawa, and his quality is of the best. AYhat's Wanted is a bold, massive horse, with the right sort of substance, and his slock in the southern end of Taranaki is well spoken of. A glance at his pedigree will show that he comes from a stock that has never played "second fiddle'' to anything in the land. Glen Roy is a new horse to this dis- 1 trict, and "was bred by Mr. A. Alexander, late of Normanby. As a two-yea:-old Glen Roy secured three firsts and championships at the Taranaki, Wangaliui, and i'alnierston North shows respectively, while as a three-year-old lie gained first honors at Hamilton and Auckland, besides other distinctive honors. Ik' is a rich liny ill color, and possesses plenty of the right quality of bone and hair. Glen Roy was recently purchased by Mr. l'urdie, of Waitara, and will be at the stud during the coming season.
