By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. John McLaughlin was sentenced by Mr, W. G, Riddell, S.M., to-day to 14 days' imprisonment without tlie option of a fine for using obscene language. Edward Thomas George Saulc, who pleaded guilty to escaping from Point Halswell gaol was sentenced to three months', in addition to a term of two years' imprisonment which he was serving at the time of his escape. John O'Sullivan was committed for trial on a charge of assaulting Richard Coulson so as to 'have caused bodily harm. ■Alexander Lawson was committed for l trial 011 a charge of entering a dwelling by night with intent to commit a crime. Dnnedin, Last Night. At the Palmerston South Magistrate's Count to-day William Scott Muir, licensee of the Junction Hotel, Dunbeek, was charged with selling liquor on Sunday, August 23. Moiv did not appear, being laid up in the Oamaru Hospital. Mr. Crisp, for the defendant, pleaded guilty. The evidence showed tbat a number of young men resident in the district, visited the hotel 011 the Sunday evening in question, and had several drinks. On the way home one of them, Boss, was thrown from his horse and killed. ■ Mr. Hutchison. S.M., said the open way in which the liquor was supplied on Sunday was indication that the law in other respects was not, observed, and the present charge was not solitary. For tile breach defendant was fined £lO and costs, and the license was endorsed. i
