IThe British football team left for England via Vancouver by the Aiarama. i Mr. Hartnett, the manager, interviewed, said the team had been royally treated in New Zealand and Australia. He could never sufficiently praise the hospitality received. > Dr. McEvedy, the vice-captain, is not returning to England. He intends to settle in New Zealand and practice bis profession. (Prior to their departure the members of the team made him a substantial presentation.
BRITISH UNION REFUSE TO SANCTION A MATCH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Received 3, 11.25 p.m. Fremantle, September 3. Oeylon papers by the mail state that the English Rugby Union refused their consent to a match between the Australian amateurs and a Ceylon teamit is believed because the latter compromised themselves through playing the All Black professional team laat year.
MATCH AT WANGANUI. Bt Telegraph.—Frees Association. Wanganui, Last Night. A matdi was played this »nernoon between Auckland Saored Heart Old Boys and St. Marya Club. A fast game resulted in a win for Wangaaii by three to nil. The local score consisted of a peaalty goal kicked by Abbott.
ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP. HAWERA AND STRATFORD AGAIN DRAW. Hawera, Last Night. Another drawn game was the result of the re-play between the Hawera and Stratford Clubs for the final Tanmaki Championship. In a stubborn and evenly-contested game, Hutchinson scored for Hawera and Collingwood for Stratford.
BROWN SHIELD MATCHES.
' Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand Football Association has rearranged the matches for the Brown Shield at Dunedin as follows:—First day (Wednesday next), (Southland v. Taranaki, 1.30 p.m., referee Mr. S. W. Thornton of Canterhury; Otago v. Canterbury, 3 p.m., referee, Mr. H. G. Mayer, of Wellington; Becond day (Thursday), Wellington v. v 4he winner of the Taranaki-Southland match, 3 p.m., referee Mr. W. Smith;, Otago. The referee for the final match will be arranged by the captains of the teams interested. • Judging from the feeling amongst a number of Gisborne footballers, it is E robable tbe Northern Union rules will e introduced there next season.
