At a meeting of the committee oi the Canterbury Cricket Association iieid last night, the Don. secretary reported that he had received the following communication from Lord Hawke: —"I have pleasure in iniorming you that I have engaged E. Hum? phries, of Kent, for your Association. He is one of the most reliable men hi ilheir eleven, and I have the very greatest confidence that he will give you | every satisfaction. A very good allround man is what you want, and I really consider I have been lucky in getting him. He will sail with Relf as soon as the season is over. 1' hope ne will bear out all I have said W' him. With every good wish for the success of cricket hi New Zealand,—' YourS very truly, Hawke.—July 22, 1008." Satisfaction was expressed at the choice, and the hon. secretary was snetructed to communicate with Lord Hawke tfoankfag hiin on behalf of the Association.
