AN UNWELCOME ARRIVAL.
LITTLE BAIIY FOUND DEAD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Oliristchurch, Last Night, The body of a female child, much decomposed, was found in Hagley on Saturday evening uy the police. Aa inquest was held to-day. Chief Detective Bishop stated that he found the body on the bank of th* Avon river to the south of Victoria;' Lakv, lying two or three feet away from the river and only a few yards, off the recognised track. The* body had no clothing, but was partly covered with dry leaves which had dropped from the surrounding trees. Dr. Symes, who had made a post mortem examination, said the body was of a fully matured female child., The umbical cord had been cut, but' there was no ligature on it. The child appeared to have breathed for n short time. There were no apparent marks of violence. The child had probably been dead for from three to five wueks. The jury returned a verdict that tliere was no evidence to showl the cause of death.
