COMMERCIAL.
HIGH COMMISSIONEIIIS CABLE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. . The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner at London, dated 24th August:— Frozen Meat.—There is good demand for prime quality mutton in light weights. With this exception trade in all classes of mutton is very slow. Lastweek's prices are barely maintained. The supply of Canterbury brands is I practically exhausted*. North Island mutton is quoted at 3'/»d. The lamb market is steady. The demand is chiefly for light weights. Canterbury lamb is quoted at 5%d, other than, Canterbury sy a . The beef market is firm, owing U» reduced supplies. Some New Zealand beef now on the market is of inferior quality. That from the Argentine is of very fine quality. New Zealand hindquarters are quoted at 4%d, and forequarters at 3%d.
Butter.—Tile market is quiet. -Moderate business is.doing. Danish butter is quoted at 12Us, 'Siberian, 108s Canadian UOs.
Cheese.—The market is firm, with good demand. Following are current quotations:—Canadian nukes (ils, Xew Zealand white lils, colored GOs. Hemp. steadier. .Good fair grade on the spot is quoted at £2(l los, fair grade on the spot £23, fair current Manila 011 the spot £23 ss. October to December shipments are quoted as follows:—Good fair grade £26 10s, fair grade £23, fair current Manila £23. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 18,000 bales. Mr. Xewton King has received the following cable from Ills Sydney agent: "Hides firmer.*
