TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The general committee of the Agricultural 'Society met'last night at the secretary's oliice. There were present: Messrs. W. Ainbury (president), \V. Stanley, F. Watson, James Burgess, S. Smith, J. It. Hill, X'.- Hill, Mills, Cornwall, A. 11. Street, A. Cliff, and E. P. ■Webster (secretary).
The chairman and the secretary were deputed to.lix dates for the annual horse parade. Air. •). C. X. Grigg w as nominated iv this society to represent agricultural and pastoral societies in connection, ■with the Flour and Other Monopolies Prevention Bill.
On the motion of Messrs. Ainbury and Watson, it was decided to arrange for special trains from Wanganui for the annual show. It. was decided to forward the names of Messrs. Alex. Brown. E. R. Bayly, 11. .1. Street, W. Ambury, and several others to the Department of Agriculture for the purpose of carrying o.it experimental crops for the coming season.
it \v;i:i <U-cided to ask the Wanganui A. and I*. Society to change its date ■for the 10(19 show in order to save clashing with Taranaki an/.l Auckland. The borough water will be laid oil to the showgrounds, and the matter was left in a sub-committee's hands to supervise.—'Members said this would be much appreciated by exhibitors. The following new members were elected:—-Messrs. Williaan James, James Houlihan, A. M. Thomson, W. I). Cannell, George Goodwin, F. Hunan, and 15. T. ilonau.
The following new members were added to the committee:—Messrs. Clias. Ansford, 0. W. Sole, F. Orbell, S. Teed, A. 11. Halcombe, F. Fagan, A. McMa-stef, A. W. Wood, H. T. Hall, K. F. Cornwall, K. 0. Webster, W. G. Malone, and G Colson.
A schedule committee (Messrs. Ainbury, Watson, and Clill) was set up to revise the schedule and to report to a general committee meeting on Monday next. (Posters will be printed and circulated. The matter of advertising and printing was left in the secretary's hands.
The matter of judges was then gone into, and a full list was selected. A general discussion ensued on the testing of individual cows of herds and other "matters pertaining to the welfare of the agricultural world. Amongst these was the question of the boned meat export trade. The chairman reported that Mr, Okey, M.I ~ was taking a considerable interest in the matter, and that the Hon. Minister for Agriculture had cabled Home for a detailed report. Members expressed I their appreciation of the steps being taken to prevent the loss to Taranaki of an, industry that benefited the i'armini' community in more ways than one, first by providing a market for cull cows and old bulls, and secondly by ridding I the farms of Stock useless for the milkI ingshed or the butcher's block.
