OKI'S OKl'' UNHARMED. excitingTiomests. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Whangarei, Tuesday. The steamer Kapanui ran aground at 4 a.m. on a sandbank oil' Mangawai. A bi" sea was running at the time, ami the vessel stuck for UVo hours. She was bumping so alarmingly that lifeboats were served uiit. in the midst of the confusion a lamp .hurst and caused a lire, which was only subdued with difficulty owing to the high wind. Coals wciv got ready, snid some of the passengers stripped ready to swim, but there was- no panic. The vessel got oil' eventually apparently unharmed.
